Can we watch the interview take place?

Anyone wanting to listen may do so from another room so they cannot be seen. It is very hard for the person being interviewed to not look at the others in the room, and it’s also hard for everyone else to be quiet enough to not be picked up by our sensitive microphones.

How long will it take before the whole video is done?

Typically a few weeks, but during the busy season it can take longer. If you have an event or other time requirements it’s usually no problem to work within those.

Will we be able to make changes after the video is edited?

Yes. We will send you the video to review once it is completed and you can request some changes. We can do this two times, which is most always plenty of opportunity to make everyone happy.

Can I get mine on DVD?

Yes… However, we would strongly discourage it. We have to charge the same price as a Blu-ray disc, and DVDs do not display high definition video. We want your film to be seen at its best. But we are able to make a DVD if that’s what you’d like.

How will I know what to say during the filming?

It’s just going to be a conversation! We will have some questions to guide us and help you remember details.

Why wouldn’t I just do this myself, or have a friend do it?

You certainly can do this; however, most people fully intend to do so, but never get around to doing it. All too often, they wish they had done it before it became too late. It would be hard to find a family member willing to put in the time and effort we can. There will also be a big difference in the result between a video shot on a phone or a camcorder and us, using our years of professional experience & equipment to create a priceless heirloom biography.

What questions are you going to ask?

We have a list of basic questions, and will also ask you or a family member if there are some particular stories or aspects of your life that we need to be sure not to miss.

What should I wear?

This is up to you. We prefer, personally, to see people dressed as they are on a typical day. But many like to dress up as if it’s a special occasion. It’s completely up to you. Just be comfortable!

How much does a video like this cost?

The old adage, “you get what you paid for” certainly rings true concerning production. We strive to produce an exceptional, professional, & top-of-the-line video biography of you or your loved one. Our prices are competitive with other similar products. There are many hours involved after the interview is recorded and that is the part you don’t see, that really makes a difference.

What photos should I submit?

It is ideal to be able to see photos or video of the people and things being discussed in the interview. Sometimes we are able to send back a list (after the interview) of subjects that were talked about during the interview that would be great to have as photos.

I’m nervous, and not sure about being on camera.

Most people are nervous before stepping in front of the camera—even professionals. But even if you are nervous, after a minute or two you will be enjoying sharing about fond memories and the tension really wears off.

Where will we do the filming?

Usually in your home. Or if there is another preferable location that you really identify with (like a shop or place of business), we can make that work too!

Do you have any samples of what the video will look like?

Yes. Check on the example page.

What if I mess up and say something wrong during the interview?

It’s no big deal at all. Usually it’s just best to keep talking like you are having a normal conversation. We will ask you to repeat something or clarify if needed, but no one will know after the project is edited. It’s movie magic.

What kind of music do you use?

All music purchased online needs to be legally licensed for its intended use. We use online music libraries to find custom music that works perfectly with the film and the individual. We cannot accept music from cds to put on the film, unless it was produced by the owner.

Three hours of filming?!

Usually the time goes quickly, and it’s just “up to” three hours. Once we get through the material and feel comfortable, we can be done. But we also don’t want to run out of time and find out we didn’t cover from 1968 to the present. Three hours should be plenty of time for that.

Why do a legacy video?

There are so many reasons, but one of the main reasons is to capture a person’s life story to not lose any of those details and priceless stories. This is a beautiful way to do that while capturing the mannerisms and personality of the person being interviewed, while hearing it all in their voice. It’s a great way to have a good summary of a person’s life all in one place.

Okay, I’m interested. What’s next?

Give me a call (719-357-9668) or email me (kevin@cabin6films.com) and we’ll discuss which package you’d like and any add-ons. When that’s all set I send you an agreement that we will both sign which lays out everything exactly. I will also send you some basic questions to see if there are specific things that define your life or stories we sure don’t want to miss! I need half the payment upfront as a deposit, then we’ll shoot the interview, I’ll edit it and send it back to you via a link for approval. You can request up to two rounds of changes. Once we’re all set, you will send the remainder of the payment and I will send you the video(s).

How does payment work?

We require half of the payment before the interview takes place, and the other half before the final video files are delivered.

Can I put the video online?

Certainly, you can do whatever you’d like with your video.
